Governor Jan Brewer Proclaims "Constitution Week" in Arizona

Statement

To commemorate the adoption of the United States Constitution 226 years ago today, Governor Brewer has issued a proclamation declaring September 17 -- 23, Constitution Week."

"More than two centuries after its signing, the U.S. Constitution remains our nation's bedrock document," said Governor Brewer. "At times, it can be easy to take for granted the rights we enjoy as citizens of the world's freest republic. More now than ever, it is critical that we continue to educate ourselves, our fellow citizens and our future generations on the Constitution and the founding principles enshrined by the visionary leaders who drafted it.

"This week and beyond, I am calling upon all Arizonans to pay special recognition to the U.S. Constitution. Let us remember that its provisions -- which promote a limited federal government, individual liberty and separation of powers between the branches of government and between the states and the federal government -- set us apart from other nations as the world's beacon of freedom and democracy."

On August 2, 1956, Congress requested that the President of the United States proclaim the week beginning September 17 and ending September 23 of each year as "Constitution Week." Involvement from federal, state and local officials is encouraged.
